FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a special protocol for file transfer, which was among the first to appear as far back as 1971. It is widely used as a simple and reliable method of uploading files, especially convenient when you need to send a large number of files for printing, which are furthermore of a considerable size.

When you upload files directly in My Account on the website (both using Java and "one file at a time" upload method), the size of each of your files can not exceed 256 MB, but when you use the FTP technology, the size of the uploaded files is unlimited.

You do not require any special software for basic FTP operations, Windows Explorer is sufficient. But if you upload files regularly, it is more convenient to use special FTP clients. Below we consider FileZilla and FAR free client software.

Work with FTP via Windows Explorer

This method works in all versions of Windows, from Windows 95 to Windows 7.

1. Connect to the FTP server

Open Windows Explorer and enter the address of our server ftp://ftp.fotoproekt.ru in the address bar:

2. Enter your login and password

In a new window, enter your login and password; they should be the same ones as for the access to My Account on the website. Leave the checkbox "Log On Anonymously" unchecked:

Now you are in your personal FTP directory. If it already contains files, you will see the list of them. If there are no files, you will simply see a blank area. You can work with the files in this window in the same way as you do with the files located on your computer. This is a standard Explorer window, only it displays the content of your directory on our server instead of the content of your hard disk drive.

3. Open the local folder containing your files on your own computer

Minimize or close all the unnecessary windows, except the previously opened Explorer window showing your FTP directory. If the Explorer window is maximized, lessen its size and move it to one side.

Open the folder containing the files that you want to upload in a new window. Arrange the two windows on the screen so that they are both clearly visible.

Select the files you want to upload and then just drag and drop them to the window of your FTP directory (you can select the content of the folder at once using keyboard shortcut [Ctrl] + [A]). File uploading has now begun!

4. Log on to My Account and arrange an order

If before you start uploading via FTP you have already opened My Account, you should refresh the webpage "Order Arrangement" to see new files.

Work with FTP via FileZilla

1. Download and install FileZilla

FileZilla is freeware. A new version of the programme is available for downloading on the following webpage: http://filezilla.ru/get/ Run the installer following the instructions on the screen.

2. Connect to the FTP server

There is a quick connection panel at the top of the FileZilla window. In the "Host" enter the address of our server (ftp.fotoproekt.ru), then your login and password for My Account. Leave the field "Port" blank:

Click on the button "Quick Connect". The content of your FTP directory will appear on the FileZilla right side panel.

The left side panel displays files on your computer. To upload photographs to the FTP directory, just drag them to the right side panel. If it is not convenient for you to drag them, just click the right mouse button and select "Upload".

Depending on the configuration of the interface, the FileZilla window may also include FTP connection log panels, and the panels with data about the current file upload.

Work with FTP via FAR Manager

1. Download and install FAR Manager

Far Manager is freeware. A new version of the programme is available for downloading on the following webpage: http://www.farmanager.com/download.php?l=ru Run the installer following the instructions on the screen.

2. Configure your FTP connections

Run Far Manager. The window of the programme is divided into two parts ("panels"): each of them can display both files and folders on your computer and the content of FTP directories on a remote server. Let the left file window show the files on your computer and the right file window show the content of your personal FTP directory on the server ftp.fotoproekt.ru. To do this, you should carry out these further actions:

A. Create a new FTP connection

Move the cursor to the right file window of the FAR interface. You can do this both by clicking the left mouse button and by pressing the Tab key. After that, press the key combination [ALT] + [F2] and select FTP in the appeared window:

To create a new connection, press the key combination Shift + F4.

Specify the address of our server, and your login and password for My Account in the appeared dialog box of options:

At first, enter the address ftp://ftp.fotoproekt.ru, then, your login and password, respectively, in the fields "User" and "Password". The description "ftp.fotoproekt.ru" in the field "Description" is necessary to distinguish configured connections to different servers, if you have more than one connection.

If the configuration of your network requires "Passive mode", you should enable it. Then push the "Save" button. The connection is now created.

B. Connect to the FTP server

Select your new connection "ftp.fotoproekt.ru":

Press the key [ENTER] or double click the selected connection with the left mouse button.

If you have entered all the data correctly in the option window (above all, the login and password), and the settings of your local area network do not restrict or prohibit the use of the FTP protocol, the connection to the FTP server will be set successfully.

Now the left file window shows the files on your computer, and the right file window displays your personal FTP directory on the server ftp.fotoproekt.ru.

Upload files

To upload a file to your FTP directory, it is necessary to select it in the left file window on your computer, then press the F5 key and confirm the file upload. You can also drag and drop the file from the left file window to the right one. Several files at a time can be selected by pressing the key [Ins], and all files of the folder at a time are selected by pressing the asterisk key [*] on the numeric pad.

4. Log on to My Account and arrange an order

If before you start uploading via FTP you have already opened My Account, you should refresh the webpage "Order Arrangement" to see new files.

Restrictions on the use of a personal FTP directory

On our server you can upload, delete, and rename files in your FTP directory. But you are not allowed to create new subfolders, as well as to download the uploaded files from your directory to your computer. This is to prevent the use of the FTP server for tasks which are not related to arranging orders for printing.

Common Issues

If you can not connect to our FTP server, then:

• verify the connection settings you entered (the address of the server, login, and password);
• ask the administrator of your local area network whether the connections via this protocol in the network are allowed;
• if the settings are correct, and the FTP connections in your network are allowed, but nevertheless you can not get into your FTP directory, please contact us at support@fotoproekt.ru.
