Services » Scanning

We can scan any images including film negatives and transparencies, 135 films and 120 films as well as sheet films, photographs and flat art works. Depending on the source type, you can choose the following scanning options:

Scanning of Films in Automatic Mode

Automatic mode means the scanning of an entire film or all the frames of a film successively. It is available on the following scanners:

  135 film 120 film
Noritsu + +
Nikon 5000 + -

Indicated below are the differences between Noritsu scanning and Nikon scanning (the Noritsu scan is on the left, the Nikon scan is on the right):

Noritsu and Nikon scanning

  1. The resolution of the Noritsu scanner is 260 dpi and the resolution of the Nikon scanner is 300 dpi. This category affects both the linear dimension of a scan in pixels and the file size in megabytes.
  2. Noritsu scanners adjust their scans for exposure, contrast and intensity automatically. Nikon scanners have minimal automatic adjustments.
  3. The Noritsu increases image sharpness automatically. Nikon scanners do not automatically adjust scans for sharpness.
  4. The Noritsu crops the image automatically to a 3:2 aspect ratio, thus removing superfluous black and white margins around the frame. The Nikon crops the image leaving more space for you to define the image area.

Noritsu scanning is designed for immediate use as a completed product without any additional manipulation (for printing or publishing on the Web) - such scanning is more suitable for home use. Nikon scanning is focused on getting the maximum of raw material for further manual adjustments- such scans are more suited to professional work.

There is a Digital Ice dust / scratch removal built into both scanners (it is applied to all films, including monochrome ones but excepting black and white films). Scans are in TIFF format (8 bits, RGB).

Scanning of Individual Frames

This mode enables the user to choose specific frames for scanning, right up to one frame. The individual frame scanning mode for any films is available on the following scanners:

135 film 120 film Sheet film
Nikon 5000 + - -
Nikon 9000 + + -
Imacon + + +

Flat Art Scanning

We refer to photographs, drawings and any other images on a thin base (except films) as the flat art. Scanning of such flat art is available on flatbed scanners

Additional Image Manipulation

For scanned images, you can order additional processing services - technical or artistic retouching, colour correction, clipping, and so on.

Scans of the finished order are burnt onto a company CD.
